Meet Jemma Toller - Professional Calligraphy Artist, based in Tayside, Scotland - an Admirer and Creator of Beautiful Lettering and Bespoke Art.

Hello! I am Jemma ; the girl behind The Coastal Pen Calligraphy Studio, mum of three, part-time palliative medicine physician and Christian creative, living by the sea in sunny Scotland.

I have a great appreciation of beautiful words and believe they can have a profound effect on our hearts and minds. I love to work closely with clients to create deeply personal and meaningful pieces of calligraphy that will be treasured. Hooked on calligraphy since attending my first workshop in 2020, I specialise in pointed pen work in both modern and traditional scripts. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to train with several internationally renowned calligraphers including Barbara Close, Heather Held, Suzanne Cunningham and Master Penmen Pat Blair (previously calligrapher to the White House for over 12 years) and Harvest Crittenden. The calligraphy world is full of amazing creatives and has a rich body of historical work which I love to study. My growth and exploration in this art form continue as I study and prioritise high quality training to expand my skill levels and repertoire of scripts and enable me to create beautifully bespoke calligraphic art for you.

Calligraphy Tools, Pen and Ink

My Tools

Calligraphy requires careful and intentional strokes and lines of ink to be meticulously placed on whichever lucky surface it will decorate. It is a time consuming process and requires great attention to detail. I use a dip pen, metal nib and ink to scribe your beautiful words on high quality paper, or sometimes less conventional surfaces. Not all paper is created equal, therefore I require samples if using your own stationery to ensure the best result can be achieved with the ink. I am very happy to provide advice on suitable surfaces for calligraphic work.

I’m excited to discuss your project!
